SCHOOL GROWTH PLAN

Our Story

Kelly Creek Community School is located in qathet Regional District, 15 kilometers south of the City of Powell River and on the traditional territory of the Tla’amin Nation. Kelly Creek has seen a growth in our school population and is now at enrollment of 163 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7 (7 divisions). In addition to our school, we have a Strong Start Go program that comes here on Monday and Tuesday mornings, and a daycare operated by the YMCA as part of our facility. Our team of teachers, support staff and community coordinators work hard to provide a caring, inclusive learning environment for all learners.

Community schools are regular schools with special belief in, and emphasis on, the value of community involvement. Our community school is run by the Kelly Creek Community School Association (KCCSA). The KCCSA has a coordinator who works on many of the special offerings and programs. As a community school, Kelly Creek is a neighbourhood hub and offers a variety of programs and services to meet the specific educational, recreational and social needs of our students and the area we serve.

Additionally, our unique location allows us to provide intentional, place-based learning opportunities both in and beyond the classroom. We are fortunate to be surrounded by an incredible natural environment that includes coastal rainforest, Kelly Creek, a fish hatchery, estuary and beachfront, an extended forested play area, and an outdoor classroom. These spaces provide rich opportunities for students to connect their learning to the land and the community around them. Kelly Creek also offers an Outdoor Adventure Program through Division 1, which provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, gain a variety of outdoor education skills, and share their learning and experiences across the school community.
